FROM KEYBOARD TO COCKPIT

Exploring historic aircraft design before creating your own virtual aircraft to complete a series of missions

Have you ever wanted to design your own aircraft and test it’s capabilities on missions around the world?

Over the course of this 1/2 day experience your teamwork, creativity and engineering skills will be tested as you work in teams to produce an agile and capable aircraft design. Starting with an exercise designed to test your teamwork, you will have to work together, and quickly learn each others strengths and weaknesses in order to succeed.

After a quick break it’s time to head out into the museum to research the different types of aircraft that have been used by the RAF since it’s creation in 1918. Make sure you take good notes and collect photographs, as you will need to refer back to them when it comes to designing your own virtual aircraft.

Now it’s time to build your aircraft. For this you will be using our ruggedized laptops and a program called Simple Planes. It might take a few attempts, but by working as a team and using all that you learnt during the research session, you will be able to design your own aircraft before conducting test flights around Wright airfield to prove your designs airworthiness to our team of inspectors.

Once your design has been signed off it’s time to explore. Whether you want to explore the temples, pyramids, and racetracks of Maywar, fly through the snowstorms and hostile defences of Snowstone, or go hunting for the Kraken, the choice is up to you. Just remember to keep an eye on your fuel gauge and return to Wright airfield before you run dry!

When we reach the end of the session you will receive your certificate of completion before departing for home.

Calm winds and clear skies fellow engineers!
